Teen Bedwetting
All of us remember what child bedwetting is like. Waking up
in the middle of the night with a wet feeling around your
middle, and gradually increasing feelings of anxiety is
something that no one cherishes when they think about
childhood. Nonetheless, if it happens to you as a kid, people
usually forgive you for it. After all, it is a natural part of
growing up.
Teen
bedwetting, however, is something much
different. We all have to pass certain stages of development,
but sometimes we get a little bit scared along the away. Teen
bedwetting is usually a sign of some kind of developmental
issue. The teenage bedwetters are scared to go beyond something
– scared to grow up. Although teen bedwetters can be treated
through physical means, the bedwetting itself is a sign of
deeper emotional problems that are often unaddressed.
Often, however, treating teen bed wetting itself is enough.
My daughter suffered from teen incontinence, and you could tell
that it embarrassed her like nothing else. Usually, she would
try to hide the sheets, but eventually we figured it out. We
decided not to confront her directly with her
teen
bedwetting problem. Instead, we took an
indirect approach.
We simply left a cabinet with childhood supplies open. One
of these was a stop bedwetting aid, consisting of two metal
leads and an alarm that would go off whenever moisture made a
connection between them. It was made to help stop childhood
bedwetting, but would work very well for teen bedwetting as
well. We let her find this, sneak it off, and think that she
had gotten it without our knowledge.
She was able to stop teen bedwetting on her own, and the
experience increased her self-confidence. If we had confronted
her with it, however, it would have mortified her. She would
have been humiliated beyond belief. As it is now, she is much
happier than before she stopped the teen bedwetting. When she was
a teen bedwetter, she had all kinds of self-confidence
issues.
She would never have sleepover at friend houses, for
example, for fear that her teen bed wetting problem would
embarrassed her. Nowadays, however, she likes nothing better
than sleepovers. Whatever the cause of her teenage bedwetting,
it has been overcome when she cured the actual condition. We
don't need to psychoanalyze her, and we probably never will. It
was enough to give her the tools that she needed to help
herself.
