Say No To Drugs

Teach Your Kids To Say No To Drugs

No matter what you have done in your past, you don’t want your children to do drugs. Though your habits (if you had any) may be long behind you, you probably still think about them and regret some of the things that you did.

Children are very bright, and it is hard at times to tell them one thing when you have done another. Don’t let that stop you from having frequent talks with them about how to say no to drugs and other things that can hurt them, and that might even shorten their young lives.

You may feel like a hypocrite telling your child to say no to drugs when you did them on your own when you were younger. Just because you did them does not mean that they should, and they certainly can not use that as an excuse.

However, they are going to be very angry if they learn that you did them and then lied about it when you were trying to encourage them to say no to drugs. Be open about things, but don’t go into a lot of detail. At times, personal experience with things goes much further than just spewing off advice that you can hear anywhere.

Most children will have the opportunity to say no to drugs. However, what they really say may be up to what you teach them and tell them. If you say nothing, they may know they are not the best things in the world, but they are more likely to try them.

If you have had many talks with them about saying no to drugs, your voice is going to ring in their minds when they are offered something for the first time. It may not stop them, but chances are good that it will. Think about that when you seem to be chickening out of talking to them about drugs, drinking, and sex.

What can be hard when you want to tell them to say no to drugs is knowing what to say and how to say it. If that is the case for you, don’t let that stop you from talking with them about it. Instead, find some good resources that can tell you what to say, when to say it, how often to say it, and how to word it the right way.

Some things can go in one ear and out the other if they are said in a vague or unstructured way, so get resources both online and in your local bookstore that helps you teach your children to say no to drugs.
